Pep Guardiola joked he has no advice for misfiring Erling Haaland despite the Manchester City star's frustrating display in their draw with Chelsea.

It was not Haland's night at Etihad as the striker spurned two golden opportunities, what should have been bread and butter for him on another day. His wastefulness could have cost City dearly but Rodri popped up in the 83rd minute to score the equaliser and salvage at least a point for the hosts against a determined and gritty Chelsea side – who had their nose in front thanks to a Raheem Sterling strike in the first half.

However, there was no dearth of trying as Haaland rifled in 10 shots but only two of them meekly tested Chelsea keeper Dorde Petrovic. Nonetheless, Guardiola was in no mood to throw his striker under the bus and bizarrely brought up the goal-scoring stats from his playing career to defend Haaland.

Speaking to , Guardiola said: "I played 11 years and scored 11 goals so I can't give too much advice to Erling. The next one he will score. In the first half we didn't perform well and that's what we have to improve."
