The Norwegian is expected to sign a contract for a year and a half with the Istanbul side, according to Solskjaer has been in talks with the Turkish club for a while after they sacked Riza Calimbay, who was in charge for just over a month and for only seven matches in total.

Solskjaer has been out of management since he left United in November 2021. The former Molde and Cardiff City boss was in charge of United for over two and a half years and oversaw 149 matches in all competitions before he was fired after a 4-1 defeat at Watford.

Solskjaer will be Besiktas' third permanent coach this season. The club sacked Senol Gunes in October after a year in charge, leaving Burak Yilmaz in charge on an interim basis until Calimbay took over. Besiktas are now fifth in the Super Lig and 17 points behind Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.
