They brushed aside Essex by seven wickets at Old Trafford, despite an unbeaten hundred from Ronnie Irani. In Division Two, Sussex beat Derbyshire in a low-scoring match thanks to Mark Davis taking 4 for 40, and Durham scraped home by one wicket against Middlesex with Gareth Breese scoring 52 not out.
